On Manipulating Perception

Image
This is a continuation of former blog on perception: 'Manipulating' is a strong word, which is precisely why I chose it for the title of this post. Influence especially by cunning is one definition for 'manipulate' in Webster's Dictionary. And that's kind of what we have to do when working to alter our perception; be cunning, cleverly tricking our psyche into thinking differently, perceiving our world and selves differently. Anyone who says manipulating perception is easy is either lying or is extremely practiced at it, or both! In my experience it's a lifestyle, a constant work in progress. At times I feel I've made no progress in the arena of changing my perception, and this is exactly when I'm reminded to work on my perception-altering practices. An example: this past Wednesday morning we received a call from our landlord, he said people were complaining about our bird being too noisy. We were stunned and confused. I've had little Guap...

On Being Sick and Getting Well

Image
Health is not something to mess around with. Nothing is worth getting sick over. When you are sick you are useless to yourself and the world. Therefore it is not good to be sick. Stress makes us sick. Worry, anxiety and over-doing-it make us sick. Then when you're sick you may feel guilty or stressed about being sick. You think of all that needs to be done (whether it be fun stuff or work stuff), you think of what others may be saying about you while you're away, sick. -It's sad but true- there are always people that talk behind the backs of those injured or sick. It's one of those not-so-flattering aspects of human nature. How can we take better care of ourselves? How can we avoid getting sick? How can we stop pushing it to the limit every day? I know how. We can put ourselves first. We can respect, appreciate and honor what our bodies are telling us, whether it be in the form of a whisper or a scream. ...I love and appreciate my life. I am worthy of...

Not taking our partners for granted

Sometimes I get home from work stressed out, angry and tired. Sometimes on days like that I wish I could just be 'left alone.' It's because I'm grumpy, I know it and don't want to share that kind of energy with my partner. I'm ashamed to act like an asshole with him when he has nothing to do with my bad day or personal problems. Most days are happy ones for us, thank God and thank us for making them that way but naturally there are rough times as there are for anyone in a serious relationship. A couple of weeks ago I was really struggling with something and did not want to be around my partner at all. I just felt better when he wasn't around... luckily this feeling only lasted for a few days off and on and I was able to do some serious self-work and work through this. It's scary when we feel badly towards our partners or ourselves. At times it seems our feelings and emotions take on a life of their own and are running the show all on their own (espec...

All Is As It Should Be

As human beings at times we struggle, stress and worry about how to achieve things, many things. Some may be as simple as, "How will I find time to go to the grocery tonight; I have to work late but really need food!" Others issues may be more complex like, "I need to find a new job but where do I begin? I don't have any skills needed to do what I want" or "I'm tired of being alone. I'm anxious and worried I'll never meet the right person, and what if when I do meet the person I push him/her away because of my own issues?" If you're plagued with some worry please be reminded: All is as it should be in the Natural World . The natural world refers to the one not burdened by our own feelings, thoughts, worries, insecurities and fears. The world outside. The world outside ourselves is very therapeutic. When your mind is heavy with thought, worry or insecurity please go sit or stand outside and do this meditation/visualization: Try to ...

Escape from the Self

What do you think about most of the time? On your days off, on your break at work or even while you're working, what's going through your mind? Most likely you're thinking about upcoming dates, what needs to get done, where you need to be, things to be accomplished by You . We all must plan, logically. There are many, many things to do, always. However let us contemplate: when focusing all of your energy and thought on what you should be doing, or what you are doing, accomplishing, etc., you're cutting off the chance to be in tune with the source of True Energy and knowledge in this world, this universe. You are so focused on the details of your day, week, month, etc., so busy thinking, always, that you disconnect from that which can truly let you be your best, and do your best. You can refer to it as your Higher Self, Universal Light, God, whatever you so desire. The name doesn't matter. Choose what is comfortable for you. What's important is- true intuitio...
