Not taking our partners for granted

Sometimes I get home from work stressed out, angry and tired. Sometimes on days like that I wish I could just be 'left alone.' It's because I'm grumpy, I know it and don't want to share that kind of energy with my partner. I'm ashamed to act like an asshole with him when he has nothing to do with my bad day or personal problems. Most days are happy ones for us, thank God and thank us for making them that way but naturally there are rough times as there are for anyone in a serious relationship. A couple of weeks ago I was really struggling with something and did not want to be around my partner at all. I just felt better when he wasn't around... luckily this feeling only lasted for a few days off and on and I was able to do some serious self-work and work through this. It's scary when we feel badly towards our partners or ourselves. At times it seems our feelings and emotions take on a life of their own and are running the show all on their own (espec...

All Is As It Should Be

As human beings at times we struggle, stress and worry about how to achieve things, many things. Some may be as simple as, "How will I find time to go to the grocery tonight; I have to work late but really need food!" Others issues may be more complex like, "I need to find a new job but where do I begin? I don't have any skills needed to do what I want" or "I'm tired of being alone. I'm anxious and worried I'll never meet the right person, and what if when I do meet the person I push him/her away because of my own issues?" If you're plagued with some worry please be reminded: All is as it should be in the Natural World . The natural world refers to the one not burdened by our own feelings, thoughts, worries, insecurities and fears. The world outside. The world outside ourselves is very therapeutic. When your mind is heavy with thought, worry or insecurity please go sit or stand outside and do this meditation/visualization: Try to ...

Beginning this Earth Day~ 10 Simple Things You Can Do

Image
1.)  Stop using plastic grocery bags. I use the World Wildlife Fund bags; they are the perfect size (way bigger than ones the grocery stores sell) and very sturdy . They have nice pictures of nature and animals on them with the WWF logo which gives you a chance to promote an excellent environmental NGO and be the envy of other shoppers with your one-of-a-kind bags! Nearly every time I go to Publix someone comments on my grocery bags. And, if you're thinking, " But I use my plastic bags for stuff around the house, " you're not alone. I use them too but typically get them out of the plastic bag recycle bin at the grocery store. People just use them for groceries and stick them in there so they're not dirty and they don't need to be in perfect condition to line trash cans around the house or pick up dog poop anyhow right? I even use old bread or tortilla bags to pick up the dog poo. So, there are a couple of suggestions in the bag. 2.) You don't need hot...

Earth Day Tribute- 10 Simple Things you can DO...

Earth Day is 2 days away. It's an opportunity to honor, appreciate and put new practices into play to 'respect our Mother.' Though for me, Earth Day truly is Every Day, as cliche as it may sound. If you're reading this and unaware of the importance of environmental preservation- We have one planet made up of renewable and non-renewable resources. And should we use up our renewable resources at a quicker rate than they can be replenished they will end up in the non-renewable category, going extinct. This has already happened with numerous animal and plant species. Clean air, Oxygen, Trees, Clean Water, Sufficient Land to live off of (farming, forests, gardening, etc.) are all necessary elements for 'life as we know it' to exist and they're all in demand and, in danger. "At present we are consuming 1.5 planets-worth of resources to support human activity" - World Wildlife Fund's Focus May/June Vol 34. This is not an opinion, it's a calculat...

How to distinguish a true friend from everyone else

Now a days it seems to be tricky to distinguish a true friend from: who you may want to be a true friend, who looks like a true friend, who pretends to be a true friend, who wants to be a true friend but you're not letting in, who could be a true friend but you are both too busy, etc. In grade school and high school it's easy (for most) to have a solid group of friends and for many, those friends are the ones you keep for life. However for others, including me, losing touch with friends becomes part of growing up. I had a great, solid group of girlfriends in grade school. They all went on to the same high school, and I went to a different one (due to district and family budget) and we lost touch. They are all still very close, from what I can tell via facebook and the grapevine, all but me that is!  I do not feel regretful about this. I was always and eager to meet and be with many different types of people and had I went on to the same high school with the same old group of ...

-To 'follow your gut' you must be first be open to hear its message

Has anyone ever told you, "Just follow your gut/heart?" Of course they have, most likely you hear it every time you're presented with a perplexing choice or in a state of confusion. However has anyone told you how to follow your gut, how to get in tune with what your heart truly wants? It can be trickier than it sounds. Better yet, has anyone said those 4 words (just follow your gut) only to ridicule or warn you, laugh at you or even look at you like you're stark crazy when you share what it is your gut is actually telling you? -Of course they have.... many people are so closed off from their true desires and purpose in life that they cringe when someone else is brave enough to actually tap in to their own. It scares them and they're doing what they've been taught to do since childhood- fear the unknown. That's what we've all been taught. I have struggled and worked for years of my life trying to break the code of knowing what to do / what I'...

An Attitude of Gratitude- What are you taking for granted today?

This morning I trotted down the stairs, out the door of my boyfriend's studio to make the 4 block trek back to my apartment. I stopped on the corner of 9th and Washington and looked directly behind me as the dogs peed. What I saw was Ocean Drive, and the short path to the beach. Staring for a minute I quickly recalled my own voice saying, "If I lived near the beach I'd go every day, just to sit there, look at the ocean and enjoy it." Well, now I live 5 blocks from the beach and I do not go every day. I go weekly, at least, but not daily. And that's not a big deal but it reminds me, as humans we always tend to take for granted that which we have, which is disposable or near to us. -Just last year I was swimming in the ocean in November! I was still so excited to be living here, so close to the beach that the cold water didn't faze me, I was child-like in the water. This winter I have not swam in the ocean once because it's "too cold." -And it w...
